HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a visitor was beaten to death in Waikiki, state lawmakers and tourism industry leaders are reassuring the public that the area is safe, but they are also reminding others to stay on alert and be careful.
The fatal beating happened last Saturday in front of the Waikiki Beachside Hostel.
Police said the 50-year-old victim did nothing to provoke the alleged attacker, who took his life.
Authorities have launched a second-degree murder case and identified 43-year-old Ishmael Luavasa as the suspect.
“It was very sad to hear that the person has passed, my heart goes out to his friends and his family. Visitors and residents should feel safe in Waikiki and in all parts of the state,” area state Rep. Adrian Tam said.
