HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. —

Haywood County government officials say fire crews are fighting a wildfire Sunday.

Officials say the Panther Creek Fire is currently estimated at 50–70 acres and 30% contained, with additional containment progress expected over the next several hours. No structures have been lost, and no injuries have been reported.

Fire officials continue to urge the public to avoid the area if possible. A one-mile section near the 2800 block remains closed to all traffic while crews work.
