A young worker has died after he became trapped under a beam at a steel factory in NSW .
The contractor, aged in his 20s, was working opposite the No.5 Stockhouse at the Port Kembla Steelworks in Wollongong about 10.30am on Monday when the accident occurred.
BlueScope, who runs the factory, told 7NEWS.com.au a steel beam was being lifted by a crane when it fell onto the worker.
He was freed from underneath the beam but died at the scene.
Police are investigating and SafeWork NSW has been notified.
A BlueScope spokesperson said the company is cooperating with authorities.
“Our immediate priority is supporting our people, the first responders and the family of those involved,” they said.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy.”
