Firefighters have shut Brand Highway, north of Gingin, as they battle a bushfire that erupted on Monday.

The fire was reported burning in the Moore River National Park near the intersection of Brand Highway and Red Gully Rd just before midday.

Multiple fire trucks and water bombers are currently trying to douse flames.

A watch and act warning was in place just before 1pm, with the fire moving quickly in a northerly direction.

Anyone in the area is urged to leave now if they plan to do so.

“If you plan to stay and defend ensure you are mentally and physically prepared, with protective clothing and an independent water supply,” said the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

“Make final preparations now and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires.”
