A meteorologist has warned it is more likely that not a tropical cyclone will make landfall on the Northern Territory coastline in coming days.
The country’s Top End has been drenched in the last 24 hours as a tropical low looms above, with the Cox Peninsula recording record-high November rainfall.
Examining the low’s severity potential going forward, Sky News Senior Meteorologist Rob Sharpe on Monday said he thought it was “now closer to a 60 per cent chance” a cyclone would form.
“In fact, where it's going to move though is still quite an open question as it usually is,” Sharpe said.
One forecast model showed the weather system tracking north-eastward away from Darwin before travelling back south-westward towards the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf later in the week.
