SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane City Council is set to vote Monday on a proposed 12 percent tax on paid parking.
If approved, the proposal would discourage the use of surface parking lots and encourage redevelopment in the city.
Drivers, not lot owners, would bear the cost of this tax. Multi-level or underground garages would charge a reduced rate, only half of the 12 percent.
Several groups would be exempt from the tax. This includes employees, students, carpools, government workers and those with disability placards.
Additionally, on-street city parking would not be subject to this tax.
