Kolkata Knight Riders is eyeing the possibility of buying Matheesha Pathirana at the IPL 2026 mini auction, which could impede Chennai Super Kings’ chances of acquiring the pacer at a lower price, according to a report in RevSportz. CSK released the Lankan pacer after spending four seasons with the team.
Chennai first identified Pathirana when their performance analyst spotted him and invited him to join as a net bowler for IPL 2020. He had to decline, however, after his school refused permission.
The team approached him again a year later, but Sri Lanka Cricket blocked the move because of his U-19 national commitments. Chennai bagged him in 2022 as a replacement for the injured Adam Milne and Pathirana soon justified their faith.
