A growing number of Canadians are questioning whether hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup is worth the escalating price tag, according to a new survey from the Angus Reid Institute.
The poll, released on Monday, shows that 71% of respondents believe hosting games in Toronto and Vancouver only makes sense if the cities can at least break even — a goal that appears increasingly uncertain as projected costs continue to rise. That group includes 32% who say breaking even is acceptable, while 39% say the tournament should generate a surplus to justify public spending.
