WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said President Donald Trump's proposed $2,000 rebate checks could become a possibility, but it would need congressional approval.
In an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures," Bessent said that the checks "could go out."
"We will see," he said. "We need legislation for that."
Bessent also gave more details on eligibility for the checks, saying that they would be "for working families" and would have an income limit.
The White House has repeatedly doubled down on Trump's plan to issue $2,000 rebate checks to Americans from tariff revenue. The president recently brought the idea up again on Nov. 9 via a Truth Social post.
