PHOENIX – A small plane made a crash landing on a canal trail near Falcon Field in northeast Mesa on Monday morning, authorities said.

Two occupants were able to walk to safety after the plane went down near Greenfield and McKellips roads, southwest of the airport, around 9 a.m., according to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department.

The plane damaged a block wall behind a large home and pool equipment in the backyard. City utility crews responded to the scene because the pool equipment has a gas line, but no evacuations were ordered.

The city of Mesa operates Falcon Field, which is bordered by Greenfield, Higley, McDowell and McKellips roads.
