DEARBORN, Mich. (WLUC) - The Thanksgiving holiday travel period begins next week. AAA of Michigan expects record-breaking numbers.
2.6 million Michigan residents will travel at least 50 miles from home during this period. That’s up 1.4% from last year. Breaking that down further, 2.3 million are expected to travel by car, that’s up 1% from 2024. 224,600 will travel by air, while 80,155 will use other methods of transportation, such as a bus, train, or cruise. That’s up 8.4% from 2024.
On a national scale, 73 million Americans will travel by car this Thanksgiving, according to AAA. That accounts for almost 90% of all holiday travelers. That number could increase if travelers choose to avoid potential flight disruptions.
