BUCKSPORT -- Bucksport officials are warning residents about a scam that looks like the real deal.
They say at least one local resident has received an email with invoices indicating it’s from the town.
It asks for money to be wired for a project the resident is working on.
Officials say this is a targeted solicitation since the sender took the time to sign the email as the mayor, used the town’s logo, created an email account to seem it was from a town committee and had accurate details about the resident’s construction project.
They say you can protect yourself from fraudulent financial solicitations by always scrutinizing communications and go straight to the source.
In this case, they suggest calling the Bucksport town office or go to their website for information.
