There was a reason that Giants rookie edge rusher Abdul Carter was benched for the opening series of Sunday’s 27-20 loss to the Packers.

According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, interim head coach Mike Kafka sat Carter because he missed a team walk-through while he was asleep at the facility.

“I made a mistake during the week that was detrimental to the team,” Carter said. “That was the consequence, so (I) had to live with it.”

According to Duggan, a source said Carter being late to meetings was a trend, and former head coach Brian Daboll let it slide.

Carter played every snap for the rest of the game and recorded one tackle.

Carter has only recorded half a sack through his first 11 games.

Kafka did not reveal postgame why Carter was benched.
