CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WWBT) - The man who shot and killed three University of Virginia football players in 2022 is in court on Monday for his sentencing.
Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. shot and killed Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry on a bus as they returned to Grounds from a class field trip.
He pleaded guilty in November 2024 to:
Three counts of first-degree murder
Two counts of aggravated malicious wounding
Five counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Two other students - Mike Hollins and Marlee Morgan - were also injured in the shooting.
Chandler, Davis and Perry were returning to UVA from a class trip on Nov. 13, 2022, when Jones shot and and killed them.
Last year, UVA reached a $9 million settlement with the families of the victims kil
