LEONI TWP., MI — A driver who fell asleep at the wheel caused a gravel hauler to crash last week on I-94, blocking eastbound traffic for hours.
Both the semitrailer and a car were traveling on I-94 on Nov. 10 in the area of Sargent Road in Leoni Township when the car, driven by the sleepy driver, swerved in front of the semitrailer, Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety Director Darin McIntosh said.
The semitrailer overturned while attempting to avoid the collision and fell onto its side. No one was seriously injured, though the truck driver reported minor injuries, McIntosh said.
The driver of the car was cited for careless driving, he said. Crews righted the semitrailer and cleaned up the spilled gravel. Traffic was closed from 11:17 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.
