BRIGHAM CITY — Gov. Spencer Cox on Monday announced plans to build a small nuclear power plant in Brigham City, alongside a manufacturing and training hub, as part of his Operation Gigawatt initiative, calling it “the launch of a complete civil nuclear energy ecosystem from start to finish, the first project of its kind.”

Hi Tech Solutions and Holtec International will partner with the state to build a facility that manufactures parts for small modular reactors and trains a specialized nuclear workforce, with the goal of eventually deploying a fleet of reactors in Utah and across the Mountain West. “Brigham City is planting its flag to lead America’s nuclear renaissance,” Brigham City Mayor DJ Bott said.
