Mildred Denes Josefson, 89, a lifelong educator and artist, passed away on Oct. 14, 2025. Born in Brooklyn to Hungarian Jewish immigrants, she grew up in Bensonhurst. Mildred graduated from Brooklyn College in 1957, double majoring in chemistry and art. She married Jerome Josefson that same year and they moved to the Grasmere section of Staten Island in 1970, where they raised their three children.

Mildred taught high school chemistry at Susan Wagner H.S. and Lincoln High School in Brooklyn. She also earned a Master of Science degree from Richmond College. A talented painter in the Dutch Master style, Mildred studied at the Art
