VATICAN CITY (WNDU) - Notre Dame President Rev. Robert Dowd and a small group of school leaders received a private audience with Pope Leo XIV last Friday.

The president was there on a four-day trip with school officials. Their conversation centered around how Catholic universities can serve the Church.

During the meeting, Pope Leo expressed gratitude for the university’s work and encouraged Father Dowd to continue to build bridges. Father Dowd presented Pope Leo with a sculpture of St. John Henry Newman.

The audience ended with Pope Leo offering blessings to the group and the Notre Dame community.
