The True North fund, headed by former Communitech chief executive officer Chris Albinson, is part of a $100-million (U.S. currency) round of investment into the e-commerce platform Faire announced Monday.

Headquartered in Waterloo and San Francisco, the latest investment enables Faire to buy back ownership shares from employees and early-stage investors.

“We are thrilled to be co-lead on this investment,” said Albinson.

WCM Investment Management and the True North Fund led this round with participation from the existing investor Baillie Gifford & Co. This is one of the biggest investments in years for a venture-backed startup in Waterloo Region.

Faire has raised more than $800 million (U.S.) since it was founded nearly nine years ago.
