The highly-anticipated nominations for The Game Awards were released on Monday, but so far fans have had a hard time casting their votes for the best video games of the year.
The Game Awards, founded and hosted by Geoff Keighley, are a yearly award show highlighting the best and brightest in video games over the last calendar year. At The Game Awards 2024 show, Sony platformer Astro Bot took home the big prize by winning Game of the Year. This year, sleeper hit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 amassed 12 nominations — the most in The Game Awards history — and looks to be the frontrunner for GOTY, though popular titles such as Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades II could very well take home the crown in a few short weeks.
While the majority of the voting for the awards is done by a jury, fans get to let their voice be heard as well by being able to vote on winners thanks to a blended vote system. However, after The Game Awards 2025 nominations were revealed, the buzz was so great that the website for voting has been down for a large portion of the day.
Keighley confirmed massive and unprecedented voting traffic on the The Game Awards website has caused the slow delays and inability to load the page.
The good news is that gamers will have plenty of time to vote, as The Game Awards voting will be open until December 10. The Game Awards 2025 show will then commence one day later on Thursday, December 11.
