HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Staff members at Skyline Village retirement home are asking for community donations after a weekend fire forced around 90 people to evacuate, and left the facility without power .
The power outage is affecting staff members’ ability to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for residents, many of whom have mobility issues and disabilities. Kitchen Manager Tina Nunn said the situation is emotionally challenging for staff.
“It hurts to know their displaced, you know, they’re put out of their homes,” Nunn said.
Power has been turned off to eliminate the risk of electrocution, rendering the kitchen useless. Nunn is calling on restaurants, churches or food trucks to help provide hot meals and cooking space.
