ST PAUL, Minn. — A 39-year-old St. Paul man has been charged in a fatal hit-and-run on Nov. 13 that took the life of a 30-year-old pedestrian.

Michael Kentrell Smith is charged with criminal vehicular homicide after a pedestrian was struck near the intersection of St. Anthony Avenue and Aldine Street just before 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13. Officers say the pedestrian was found near the crosswalk and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died. Officials identified the pedestrian as Amber Deneen.

Deneen's family released a statement on Monday saying she was an artist who loved animals and "was enchanted with life." Their full statement reads:
