Angry at being spurned by his ex-girlfriend a Calgary murder suspect took his frustration out on another man, stabbing him four dozen times, a jury was told Monday.

In his opening address before a Calgary Court of King’s Bench jury, Crown prosecutor James Thomas said the only issue for them to decide is Dennis George Hart’s state of mind at the time of the killing.

Hart is charged with second-degree murder in the Sept. 12, 2023, attack on Sean Barber in the victim’s Bowness home.

Thomas said the case is not a whodunnit, noting Hart was sitting next to the victim when police arrived to find Barber bleeding to death.
