WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Celebrating service and recognizing living history. Honor Flight Columbus works toward both, especially among local World War II veterans, like Bill O’Bannon.

“There’s not many of us left,” said O’Bannon, a Worthington resident, on a recent trip to Washington, D.C. with Honor Flight.

According to the , “.5% of the 16.4 million Americans who served during World War II are still with us today."

According to the 2025 Flight Statistics for Honor Flight Columbus, out of the 731 veterans who participated in the ten flights for the year, only two represented service during World War II. Honor Flight gives priority to veterans of that era, along with Korea and terminally ill veterans.
