AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) — As Thanksgiving approaches, fire departments are bracing for their busiest day of the year for house fires.

Data found by Noble Digital Studio indicates that cooking-related fires affect at least 35 percent of Richmond County households.

“The Augusta Fire Department has been really seeing an influx of calls coming in specifically for house fires,” said LaTisha Hanford, public fire and safety community engagement specialist with the Augusta Fire Department.
