BYRNES MILL, Mo. (First Alert 4) — Alyssa Kalbach, a 30-year-old mother of two, was struck and killed Sunday morning while walking along Highway 30 in Jefferson County, according to police.
The Missouri Highway Patrol said Kalbach had been walking along the shoulder of Highway 30 near Upper Barnes Mill Road when a driver hit her and kept going.
On Monday morning, officers said the driver, an Illinois man, later contacted police after seeing news reports about the death, saying that he didn’t know he had hit someone. The Highway Patrol said they are still investigating the crash.
Kalbach was the oldest of five siblings and worked as a nurse at a long-term care center. Her family said she was on her way to visit a relative when the crash occurred.
