LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Fayette County School System launched a facility assessment committee Monday to review school buildings as the financially challenged district seeks to improve efficiency and long-term sustainability.

The “Project Right Size, Bright Futures” committee began its work by reviewing three schools: George Washington Carver STEM Academy for Boys, RISE STEM Academy for Girls and The Stables Alternative School Program.

Soraya Matthews, chief officer for student belonging and success, led the committee’s first meeting.

“When you think about our schools, we truly have every opportunity that you can name available,” Matthews said.

The committee met with community members to discuss what it means to “right size” the district, Matthews said.
