MINNEAPOLIS — Over the course of three decades living in White Bear Lake, Brian Hanson has learned to deal with common nuisances like snow removal and yard work.
Those are just some of the joys of homeownership.
"I don't mind the leaves, every once in a while," Hanson said, dumping the last of his yard debris on Monday afternoon into a neat assortment of paper bags. "But, keeping up the property and having the taxes go up all the time too, it makes you think about moving."
That's a common sentiment these days.
Almost universally, local governments across Minnesota are proposing property tax hikes in 2026, potentially costing homeowners hundreds or thousands of dollars depending on where they live and the value of their house.
