Veteran actor Dick Van Dyke has opened up about the emotional and physical challenges that come as he approaches his 100th birthday on Dec. 13.
In an essay published Nov. 13, the 99-year-old “Mary Poppins” star talked about how traveling has become exhausting, which led him to turn down work in New York and Chicago. He said most of his socializing now comes at home.

Van Dyke said he also has foot problems, weakened vision and difficulty hearing. He said he feels like a “stooper, a shuffler and a teeterer.”
Van Dyke also said his everyday frustrations include spilling food at meals, struggling with group conversations and being annoyed by his hearing aids.
