ROSELLE, N.J. (PIX11) – At least 38 people are displaced after a raging five-alarm fire consumed their homes in New Jersey on Monday, according to the Roselle Fire Department.

The fire broke out on the 300 block of East 9 th Avenue around 9 p.m. Multiple agencies responded to the flames, which started as a two-alarm fire before it rapidly spread, Roselle Fire Chief Christopher Laba said in a statement on Facebook.

He said the fire resulted in significant property loss. The only reported injury was a firefighter who hurt his arm battling the blaze, according to officials.

The Red Cross is helping the eight families affected by the fire with lodging, food, clothing, and other needs.

The fire is under investigation, according to Laba.
