LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Government is continuing its push to curb violence in neighborhoods across the city, pairing community conversations with a growing violence-intervention strategy aimed at stopping conflicts before they escalate.
City leaders held the fourth Community Violence Prevention Discussion this week at the Goodwill West Louisville Opportunity Center, uniting Metro officials, nonprofits, and residents to address ways to reduce crime.
“People just don’t wake up and say, ‘I’m going to shoot somebody today,’” Louisville Metro Councilwoman of District 1 Tammy Hawkins said during the meeting — a sentiment echoed by many who believe prevention begins long before violence occurs.
