The federal Liberal government avoided a snap election on Monday after surviving a tight budget confidence vote in the House of Commons.

The main budget motion, tabled Nov. 4, passed 170–168. The entire Liberal caucus of 169 MPs supported the motion, along with Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. The opposition parties delivered a near-unified rejection, but four abstentions — two from the Conservatives and two from the NDP — helped the minority government stay in power.
