OMAHA, Neb. —

There are fewer than 12 months until Nebraska District 2 voters choose their next congressional representative. For the first time in a decade, it's guaranteed to be someone other than Republican Don Bacon.

The crowded field is now up to seven — five Democrats and two Republicans — and already generating millions of dollars in donations.

"Money is the mother's milk of politics," said Dr. Randy Adkins, a political science professor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. "This is nothing new. It's been this way for generations."

As of Sept. 30, the last reporting deadline, more than $2.4 million has been generated in receipts, or campaign donations.
