An NYPD sergeant faces federal charges he impersonated an ICE official and demanded a victim report with their family to an ICE location.

Sgt. Atickul Islam, 29, who joined the NYPD in 2018 and became a sergeant in 2023, was indicted in Brooklyn Federal Court.

The details in the one-paragraph indictment are slim — it alleges Islam, who also goes by the name “James W. Anderson,” claimed to be the New York field office director for ICE when he contacted the victim on March 29.

He then demanded the victim and the victim’s family report to an ICE location in New York City by April 15, according to the indictment.

The indictment offers no details as to how Islam knew or came into contact with the victim, though a court filing says the alleged crime took place in Queens.
