Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, condemned the death sentence handed down to his mother as a political vendetta rather than a legitimate judicial process.
In an exclusive interview with India Today, Wazed described the tribunal’s conviction of Hasina for “crimes against humanity” — relating to alleged incitement, ordering lethal force, and failing to prevent mass killings during the 2024 student uprising — as a “complete mockery of justice.”
He argued that the trial was deeply flawed: “Everyone knew this sentence was pre-determined. The trials were rushed... finished within 100–140 days,” he said. “The unelected, unconstitutional, and undemocratic government amended the laws, which can’t be done without the parliament.”
