Belleville’s 2026 capital budget spending of $55.5 million was approved Tuesday by Belleville city council.
The budget is higher than the $53.7 million 2025 capital budget, Brendan Ferguson, city treasurer and director of finance, reminded council in morning budget talks.
Included in the capital budget for 2026 are major cash outlays to repair or replace city assets including roads, water and sewer, police, fire and transit vehicles and equipment as well as transportation and operations fleet.
As outlined by the city, $5.5 million was earmarked for the second phase of Bridge Street East construction (Phase 2) as well as $4.4 million for surface treatment and road resurfacing.
A further $6.3 million in pre-approved spending is set for the North Riverfront Trail extension and $4 million
