STRONGSVILLE, Ohio -- Meijer, the grocery chain with more than 500 stores in six Midwest states, has proposed a new store on Pearl Road about 2,000 feet north of Boston Road.

First, however, Meijer needs City Council to rezone the proposed site from a public facilities district, where grocery stores aren’t allowed, to a general business district.

On Nov. 3, council referred the rezoning to the Strongsville Planning Commission for a recommendation.

The commission may discuss the rezoning Thursday (Nov. 20).

The rezoning would not need voter approval. In Strongsville, only rezonings that involve residential districts go to the ballot.

The store would occupy two parcels totaling about 11¾ acres at the southwest corner of Pearl and Rockglen Drive.
