CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Maumee man was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for smuggling drugs into a Lorain County lock-up by soaking books, including Vice President JD Vance’s autobiography, in synthetic marijuana.
Austin Siebert, 30, coordinated with a friend he served time with at Grafton Correctional Institution, a state prison, to send the drug-soaked books in Amazon packages to avoid detection by prison officials.
U.S. District Judge Donald Nugent cited Siebert’s decades-long addiction and more than 30 convictions—ranging from misdemeanors to felonies—before imposing an 11-year, 8-month sentence.
“You’re out of control when you’re on the street,” Nugent said. “You’re both a danger to yourself and the public.”
Siebert previously pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to
