A 67-year-old pedestrian was in critical condition Monday after he was struck by a car on Route 1 & 9 in Linden, authorities said.

Police responded to West Edgar Road, near the intersection of Smith Street, around 5:35 p.m. to reports of a serious motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

The Linden resident was attempting to cross eight lanes of traffic when a 2019 Honda Accord struck him, police said.

The man was treated at the scene for serious injuries before being transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he remains in critical condition, authorities said.

According to police, the 20-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured.
