SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Springfield city leaders propose increasing sewer rates by 4% system-wide, adding nearly $1.65 per month to the typical residential sewer bill.

Environmental Services officials said the increase will help cover rising wastewater management costs and meet federal Clean Water Act requirements. A 2025 benchmark survey shows Springfield’s rates remain the lowest in the region. Single-family homes pay 23% less, commercial customers pay 44% less, and industries pay 30% less than those in similar Missouri cities.

Environmental Services plans to present an official rate proposal to the city council in February. The budget changes will likely take effect on July 1.
