Recipes that appear in Idea Alley have not been tested by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Sheila Yount (a fellow Style editor here at the newspaper) is looking for an old chocolate meringue pie like her mother made. "It was so rich and she used cocoa," Sheila tells me.
The recipe may have come from a popular cookbook like Betty Crocker.

I checked "Joy of Cooking" and my 1962 edition of Better Homes & Gardens "New Cookbook" without any luck. Both had recipes for chocolate pies, but not chocolate meringue.
I did find a recipe (see below) in the newspaper archives credited to the 1960 edition of "Ladies Home Journal Cookbook," but it is made with melted chocolate, not cocoa.
