BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - You can help in the fight against breast cancer by participating in the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Geaux Pink fundraising effort.

According to the cancer center, the effort encourages residents, schools, restaurants, businesses, sports teams, and others to donate. Organizers said the funds will go toward helping ensure local patients have access to free cancer screenings, supportive services, and education programs.

The fundraising effort began during the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Louisiana has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the nation, according to the American Cancer Society.
