TOWN OF LERAY, New York (WWNY) - Local cleanup crews are getting ready for winter while still taking care of fall, as some communities extend their yard waste pickup times.
Leaves stayed on trees later into November this season, but they are now starting to fall as more winter-ish weather sets in.
“Well, you had a lot of leaves still on the trees, and early freezing rain. It breaks off limbs faster with the weight,” said Town of LeRay Highway Superintendent Bruce Shawcross.
The town’s DPW crews are usually turning their attention to plowing snow and salting roads this time of year, but with so many homeowners still needing to clean up fall’s mess, the town is extending the time of leaf pickup. Usually, it stops in early November.
