TOWN OF WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Wood stoves, natural gas furnaces, fireplaces all heat homes. But Town of Watertown Fire Department Assistant Chief Fred Sourwine thinks more people could be going smaller this winter with a space heater.
“People try to pay power bills and groceries and stuff like that. I think you’re going to see people use alternative methods of heat more, maybe just to try to heat a small space to save money,” he said.
Using a space heater comes with safety advice from the town of Lowville’s fire chief, Joe Austin.
“The biggest thing is your distancing between your combustible materials, which would be your furniture or drapes or curtains or paper or anything like that. They recommend at least 3 feet distance between the space heater and any of those types of prod
