CHARLOTTE, N.C. — There have been a lot of questions on social media about the rights of people if they come in contact with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP).
One is if they damage your property, who is responsible for paying?
On Saturday, a man said Border Patrol agents smashed his car window while questioning his citizenship status. He is a U.S. citizen but the damage was done.
Homeland Security responded by saying the man was acting erratically and refused commands.
The man says the damages for the car amount to about $700.
So many people are wondering, who has to pay for the damage?
If Border Patrol damages property during one of these encounters, who is responsible?
