BESSEMER, Ala. —
Despite pushback from residents, the Bessemer City Council has approved "Project Marvel," a massive $14 billion data center project with a vote of five to two in favor of the proposal.
The 18-building campus would offer 4.5 million square feet of data storage and could bring more than 300 jobs to the area.
Many residents of Bessemer and surrounding areas feel there’s too much at stake with a building that size. They’re concerned about health complications, water usage, pollution , and even drilling.
