GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Nebraska drivers are receiving more citations this year under the state’s updated move-over law, which expanded protections beyond first responders to include vulnerable road users.
The law was updated Sept. 3 to require drivers who see stopped vehicles or vulnerable road users to switch to an adjacent lane. If drivers are unable to move over, they must reduce their speed when passing.
The law previously was put in place to support first responders, but now includes pedestrians, construction crews, bicyclists and more.
