A 19-year-old Clayton man is dead after police said he was struck by a passing car while he was walking his bicycle.

The crash occurred Wheatley's Pond Road (Route 300) near Bryn Zion Road, about midway between Smyrna and Kenton, at around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

Police said a southbound driver exited the lane and went onto the shoulder, where the pedestrian was also walking south.

Pedestrians in Delaware are expected to walk on the shoulder in the opposite direction of traffic, but bicyclists would ride in the direction with traffic.

Police did not offer an early explanation as to why the driver might have lost his lane, that 64-year-old from Smyrna was not injured.

Route 300 was closed for about 3 hours during the investigation.
