India is lagging in the global AI race, with 45 per cent of firms still in early adoption stages. An IDC Deel (payroll and HR platform) study has found significant reskilling gaps, as only 54 per cent of the surveyed companies have formal programmes.
Key barriers for AI adoption include data privacy concerns (46 per cent) and a lack of internal AI expertise (43 per cent). While international firms heavily source AI talent from South Asia, domestic companies face challenges in hiring and are also affected by regulatory uncertainty.
