ELKVIEW, W.Va. — Coal miner Steve Lipscomb will be remembered in funeral services set for Saturday at his alma mater–Herbert Hoover High School.
Lipscomb, 42, of Elkview, died earlier this month in the flooded Rolling Thunder coal mine in Nicholas County. Rescue efforts stretched for parts of five days last week.
Lipscomb was the foreman on the mine crew that encountered floodwaters. Gov. Patrick Morrisey, company officials and others have said he made sure the crew members got out of the mine first. His obituary said he was also a certified EMT miner.
